Abstract

Involvement in community practices is a key element of social cohesion and cultural reproduction in indigenous peoples. However, few studies have examined the influence of these practices on psychological variables, and no instruments are currently available to assess this construct in indigenous communities. This highlights the need to develop culturally relevant tools that enable both research and community-based interventions. The aim of this study was to develop and gather validity evidence for the Zapotec Community Practices Involvement Scale. An instrumental study was conducted in three stages. The first stage consisted of item development based on qualitative interviews with 13 participants (26-74 years). In the second stage, an exploratory factor analysis was performed with 206 participants (78.2 % women; 18-72 years, M = 40.44, SD = 9.46). The third stage involved a confirmatory factor analysis with 249 participants (54.4 % men; 15-74 years, M = 23.75, SD = 11.51). The analyses resulted in a final 31-item scale distributed across seven factors, with indices indicating a satisfactory model fit. It is concluded that the EIPCZ is a valid, reliable, and culturally relevant instrument for assessing community involvement among indigenous populations, with potential applications in comparative studies and communitybased interventions. © 2025, Fundacion para el Avance de la Psicologia.
