Abstract

Decent work, according to the ILO, involves dignified and safe working conditions. In Chile, nursing professionals face precarious working conditions, workload overload, and staff shortages, which not only affect their well-being but also the quality of care. This research arises from the need to highlight and address the existing gaps in this issue. OBJECTIVE. To analyze the working conditions of nursing professionals in Chile. METHODOLOGY. An integrative review was conducted using databases such as PubMed, CINAHL, Web of Science, and Scopus, as well as Google Scholar, utilizing controlled (MeSH) and natural language. Primary studies with quantitative, qualitative, and mixed designs, published in the last 15 years in English, Spanish, and Portuguese, were included. To ensure the quality of the selected articles, two researchers independently conducted an evaluation using the Oxford scale. RESULTS. Nine articles were included in the final review. The results showed that the working conditions of nursing professionals in Chile are characterized by workload overload, stress, workplace violence, and burnout syndrome, mainly affecting the public sector. The lack of supplies, long working hours, and job insecurity contribute to emotional exhaustion and burnout, especially among young professionals. CONCLUSION. Improving the work environment for nursing professionals in Chile requires public policies aimed at reducing workload, strengthening leadership, preventing violence, increasing psychosocial support, and optimizing physical and ergonomic conditions. © 2025, Escuela de Enfermeria Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile.
