Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic has severely impacted cross-border student mobility and the internationalization of universities, highlighting the value of other strategies such as internationalization at home, particularly through the Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) program. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to analyze the experience of implementing this internationalization at home program in two groups: i) national and foreign students of Nursing and Business Administration at the Catholic University of Maule (Chile), and ii) national and foreign students of Pedagogy and Psychology at LaSalle University (Brazil). An exploratory study with a mixed-methods approach was carried out, applying a survey to gather students' perceptions of their experience and satisfaction levels across four dimensions: academic development, organization, intercultural competence and overall satisfaction. Data processing was performed using the SPSS program. The surveys conducted with participants show a high level of satisfaction across all the evaluated dimensions, demonstrating that, although an online exchange is not equivalent to a physical one, it is a highly enriching experience. Regarding competency development, students highlighted autonomy, leadership, and empathy, in addition to an expanded intercultural perspective. © 2025 Research Center of Universidad Pedagogica Nacional.
