Abstract

INTRODUCTION: Health care in Chile is a right for the entire population. Therefore, comprehensive, adequate and safe care must be guaranteed for all users. OBJECTIVE: Describe the perception regarding the health care of people belonging to the LGBT+ community of Gran Concepción, Chile. METHODS: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted with 172 people belonging to the LGBT+ community of Gran Concepción. A consecutive and snowball sampling strategy was used. Data were analyzed with IBM Statistics SPSS v.22 software. RESULTS: The predominant biological sex was Female, as well as the most represented sexual and/or gender identity. 58.7% had not been asked about their orientation and gender identity and 77.9% said they were neither allowed to speak nor listened to. 78.5% were consulted about the use of pronouns, which were used later. 75.6% said they had ever had a bad experience in health services because of their association with the LGBT+ community. CONCLUSIONS: The members of the LGBT+ community of Greater Concepción participating in this study, for the most part, reported feeling neutral regarding the care received in health centers. However, aspects suggestive of poor care were reported, such as not being consulted or not expressing gender orientation and identity, not being allowed to speak, and/or not being heard.
