Abstract

This article analyses street sexual harassment as a structural form of gender-based violence in urban public space, focusing on the city of Temuco, Chile. Based on a digital survey implemented through Survey123 by ArcGIS, data were collected on harassment experiences, perceptions of insecurity, and the spatial location of incidents. The sample consisted of 125 participants over the age of 18, predominantly young women highly exposed to urban environments. The instrument enabled the identification of harassment types, avoidance strategies, and areas with the highest concentration of incidents. Findings reveal a high prevalence of verbal and physical harassment, often beginning at an early age. Three critical areas were identified where reports are clustered: Feria Pinto, the civic-commercial core, and Dagoberto Godoy Square. Spatial density analysis reveals territorial patterns linked to environmental and social factors. The study concludes that street sexual harassment functions as a mechanism of urban exclusion and spatial control, undermining habitability, autonomy, and the right to the city. Recommendations are offered for the development of public policies grounded in territorial and gender-sensitive approaches.
