Abstract

Agriculture is one of the industries with the lowest percentage of automation in its processes, in part due to the difficulties associated with establishing communications and control in isolated locations without access to the electrical grid or the Internet. For this reason, this article presents the design, implementation, and validation of a communication and automatic control network for Internet of Things (IoT) devices, applicable to remote or difficult-to-access scenarios. The main communication protocols that will be used in each section of this network are presented, efficiently combining LoRaWAN, MQTT, and HTTP. The physical devices required for its implementation are also presented. The minimum applications required to control and communicate with the system are shown, and functional examples of these are provided. Finally, a practical implementation of this communication system is presented, demonstrating its effectiveness through various tests that prove the feasibility of this remote control system.
