Formation and dynamics of a Z pinch in a high current capillary discharge in initial vacuum
Abstract
Experimental observations on the formation of a Z pinch from ablated wall material in a high current, medium diameter capillary discharge were presented. It was found that transient hollow cathode derived e-beams can establish initial plasma conditions which affect pinch dynamics throughout a high current capillary discharge. A higher rate of current rise gave superior results in a longer discharge under otherwise similar conditions of operation.
