Two new records of exotic bees in Chile: Osmia niveata (Fabricius, 1804) and Anthidium oblongatum (Illiger, 1806) (Hymenoptera: Megachilidae), with notes on their distribution and ecological interactions
Abstract
Exotic bees have been introduced into new regions around the world, some intentionally for crop pollination and others unintentionally, mainly through international trade. Despite their potential ecological impact, many introductions go unnoticed due to limited or poor monitoring and research. In this research we report the first records of the exotic bees Osmia niveata and Anthidium oblongatum (Megachilidae) in central Chile, expanding their known distribution in South America. Using data from citizen science platforms and field-collected specimens, we document their current range, floral associations, and observed behaviors. We also include updated taxonomic keys to differentiate them from other species present.
