Optimized-Pump Profile Design of a Second-Order Few-Mode Distributed Fiber Raman Amplifier with Low DMG and DSG
Abstract
We optimize the pump profile of a second-order Few-Mode Distributed Fiber Raman Amplifier (FM-DFRA) to minimize both Differential Modal Gain (DMG) and Differential Spectral Gain (DSG). A genetic algorithm is used to determine the optimal pump wavelengths and powers for the first 3 linearly polarized modes. The FM-DFRA design supports three signal modes, each transmitting 36 evenly spaced WDM channels across the C band transmission, over 75 km of Raman fiber. The optimized configuration achieves DMG and DSG values below 0.267 dB and 1 dB, respectively. The on-off gain ranges from 6.7 to 7.5 dB, with an effective noise figure below 0.3 dB across the entire C band.
