Two-Stage Passive Optical Pod Interconnects for Small Energy-Aware Data Centers
Abstract
We analyze POPI+ and Transfer POPI, two interconnects derived from POPI (Passive-Optical-Pod Interconnect), designed for small energy-aware data centers including server-turn-on/off strategies. We investigate a new control network based on a star coupler for ensuring inter-rack communications for both architectures. We also evaluate their ability to connect 870 servers at 128 Gbit/s using 4-PAM modulation by calculating the OSNR that turned to be above the required limit for using a hardware FEC.
