Abstract

Perioperative management of pediatric patients with diabetes mellitus (DM) is challenging and requires a multidisciplinary and individualized approach. DM is a frequent comorbidity in the perioperative setting and significantly increases cardiovascular, renal, and metabolic morbidity and mortality. New technologies for automated insulin delivery and continuous glucose monitoring are transforming DM care but also creating specific challenges in the perioperative period. This review aims to synthesize the evidence related to the perioperative evaluation and management of these devices, which will contribute to optimizing the clinical outcomes and safety of our youngest patients. © 2025, Sociedad de Anestesiologia de Chile.
