Non-destructive evaluation of porosity in a high-entropy alloy using ultrasound
Keywords: ultrasound, porosity, High entropy alloys
Abstract
Porosity in FeCoCrMn is characterized using ultrasound. Measurement of phase velocity and/or attenuation is related, through multiple scattering theory, to pore radius and density. Measurements agree with the pore characteristics determined using metallography and micro-computed tomography. Ultrasonic attenuation of an annealed sample with higher porosity is two to three times that of a 10% rolled sample with lower porosity.
