Abstract
DC microgrid is an increasingly popular architecture for integration of renewable energy sources, many of which are DC by nature. Voltage controlled DC-DC converters play a crucial role in the modern energy systems by providing highquality control of the microgrid DC-bus voltage. The current paper proposed a novel design methodology for three-phase interleaved non-isolated DC-DC converters, based on principles of state feedback control and extended Kalman Observer. It presents practical observer models, detailed design of gains and parameters, and develops control algorithms comparable in computational efficiency to PI control. Advantages of the proposed control over the traditional methods include faster dynamic performance and superior quality of the output DC voltage and load current. This is demonstrated by simulation and experiment, in comparison to the conventional double-loop PI control in the context of DC microgrid operation.
