Abstract

The televisual presence of LGBTQ+ narratives and figures has increased considerably overthe last decades, particularly in streaming platforms. This article offers an analysis of how 30 Chilean LGBTQ+ young viewers relate to this visibility. Through a thematic analysis of semi-structured interviews, the participants’ interpretations of the programs with LGBTQ+ content are explored, showing that they prefer representations that do not focus on the diverse/dissident identity but rather on other elements of LGBTQ+ everyday life. It is argued that these types of figures and narratives can have a positive impact on the identity development and well-being of these audiences, showing the two mechanisms - reflecting on the past and imagining future possibilities - through which this connection operates. © (2025), (Universidad de Lima), All Rights Reserved.
