Groove Gap-Waveguide Transverse Slot-Fed Patch Antenna Array With Reduced RCS Operating at 28 GHz
Abstract
This letter presents a novel antenna design based on groove gap waveguide (GGWG) technology with a reduced radar cross section (RCS). To achieve this, GGWG technology is combined with printed circuit board technology, enabling the integration of a metasurface to minimize the RCS. The radiating elements are implemented as subarrays of patch antennas. The patch array is excited through transverse slots in the GGWG, while reflection-cancelling posts are incorporated to enhance bandwidth, and a new transition for central feeding is designed. The design is optimized for a central frequency of 28 GHz. A prototype of the designed antenna was fabricated, assembled, and experimentally measured. The measurement results demonstrate excellent performance, validating the proposed concept that can be extended to other types of antennas. To demonstrate the latter, a novel circularly polarized radiating element has also been explored.
