Mapuche dramaturgy in Chile and Argentina as representations of discourses of otherness

Abstract

In this article we aim to analyze two performances belonging to a unique Mapuche dramatic corpus, in order to observe how they represent, from their poetic and political guidelines, the interrelationships with the State-nation-territory matrix. We are interested in studying the mechanisms that allow the expression, reproduction or dispute of the formations of alterity prevailing in two different contexts of production and circulation, that is, examining the constructions of aboriginality (Briones, 1999) in relation to two different States-nation-territory. That is the State of Chile and the State of Argentina. To do this, we took two stage practices for study, "Kajfvkura the value of an unfinished story" by Jos & eacute; Bastidas (1997) from Neuqu & eacute;n and "Auka Rayen" by David Arancibia (2002) from Santiago de Chile. This comparison will enable to study the complexities of the artistic-political relationships on "contemporary Mapuche performing practices" in what is called Wajmapu [Mapuche ancestral territory] and its particularities in terms of the construction of aboriginality.
