Economic assessments on the transition from light water to fast reactor fleet for Pu management
Abstract
The EU PUMMA project has been devoted to showing the flexibility of the fast reactor for Pu management, for which a European fuel cycle scenario consisting in the transition between a light water reactor fleet to a fast reactor fleet has been studied. This scenario has been analyzed to show that a single sodium-cooled fast reactor is able to manage the Pu existing in the fuel cycle, with special attention to breeding, burning and isogeneration policies. This work includes the economic analysis made with the TR_EVOL code of this reference scenario, where the objective is the calculation of the levelized cost of electricity (LCOE) for every mentioned policy. Two different databases providing the unit costs for investment cost, O&M cost and fuel costs have been applied in this work. Specific analyses have been made regarding the costs contributing to the LCOE to understand the differences between the databases.
