Resonant tunneling through a double barrier system with a lateral confinement
Abstract
We study the transport through of a double barrier heterostructure with a lateral confinement. In this system the region between the barriers simulates a quantum wire. The shape of the I-V and G-V curves are characteristic of a double-barrier system with a superpossed structure which is a consequence of the lateral confinement. We also include nonlinearities due to the electron-electron interaction and we calculate selfconsistently the main transport properties of the system. We investigate the effect of the nonlinear term in different confinement regimes.
