Abstract

An analysis was made of the problem of the high percentage of course failures in the sciences area within the agricultural civil engineering career based on a quantitative evaluation of the habits and particular study attitudes of students entering university. In this study, two questionnaires were selected and contrasted after application to four groups. The results obtained suggested that beyond the teaching of basic concepts which they did not have, also existed a lack of particular study habits and attitudes which did not allow the students to assimilate and pass the courses. It is concluded that the greatest problems confronted by the students are lack of reading and note-taking skills, inadequate programming of their time, failure to concentrate, and lack of adequate study areas.
