Abstract

The psychosocial variables that differenciate adults with a personal history of child maltreatment, who also abuse their own children, with those with similar personal history who do not abuse their children, were investigated. A secondary analysis was carried out of the study with the Child Abuse Potencial Inventory. Participants were 127 persons with a personal history of child maltreatment, 53 who abuse their children and 74 who did not. A number of risk variables were studied. Results showed significant differences in the following variables: maltreatment by the mother of the participant, leaving the home in childhood or adolescence, disease of the participant, addiction in the couple.
