Abstract

A study on the modeling and computer simulation of vapor cycles with cogeneration, has been done. The simulation is implemented on a computer program named SIMCOG. The program uses the equation of state proposed by Patel and Teja (1982) to determine the thermodynamic properties required for the calculation of thermodynamic cycles with cogeneration. The program combines the graphic and visual advantages of Visual Basic and the power calculation of Fortran. These characteristics make SIMCOG a friendly program of special utility to different users. The program presents a menu with four options of academic, industrial and practical interest: i) classic cycles; ii) real cycles; iii) water properties; and iv) equipment calculations. The results given by SIMCOG have been compared to results obtained through the use of the thermodynamic tables of water of Keenan and Keyes (1978), with those given by a simulator of academic type (SISCECT, 1999) and with those given by the commercial simulator ChemCAD (Chemstations, 2001). The results of these different types of calculations are discussed.
