Abstract

A total of 1418 samples were processed to determine the prevalence of Nosema apis, Malpinghamoeba mellificae, Braula coeca and Varroa destructor during four seasons in the dry coastal and interior of the Sixth Region, Chile. A statistical comparison between modern and traditional beehives could be performed. The results obtained indicate a higher prevalence of varroasis in summer with a 58 ± 7.05 %. The prevalence found in modern beehives was larger statistically to that ocurring in traditional beehives, except in one season when there were no differences. The presence of lice was detected,- in only one season with a prevalence of 1.4 ± 1.68% (no statistical analysis between type of beehives). Nosemosis registered a higher prevalence in spring with a 78.26 ± 5.8 % than in summer. There were no significant differences between traditional and modern beehives. Amebiasis registered the highest values in spring with a 8.69 ± 4.03 %. There were no significant differences in prevalence between traditional and modern beehives.
