Abstract

Facultad de Ciencias Sociales Administrátivas y Económicas Departamento de Antropoiogfa We analyze archaeological material from El Cebollar site, Llay-Llay, V Region, Chile, adscribed to the Early Pottery Period. This is the first open site for this period described for the western part of the Aconcagua River. Pottery, lithic, and vegetation analysis is used to define the size of the site, its cultural affinities as well as the potential and current use of vegetational resources. El Cebollar probably was an habitation site, that held a semi permanent human occupation, of horticulturists, completed with gathering of plants from surrounding habitats. Cultural relations with other people from neighbouring areas are discussed. © 2007 Universidad de Tarapacá.
