Abstract

The European species Timaspis cichorii (Hymenoptera Cynipidae),inducing cryptic galls in stems of Cichorium intybus (Asteraceae),a plant native to the Mediterranean region, is recorded in Chile and on the American continent for the first time. Phanacis hypochoeridis, another cynipid introduced from Europe, that forms noticeable galls in the stems of Hypochoeris glabra (Asteraceae) is cited in Chile a second time. Both species were collected in the surroundings of Reserva Nacional Los Queules, one of the few remains of Maulino forest, within a program of sampling and inventory of Hymenoptera, carried out with Malaise traps. This study confirms the increase of known cases of introduction of European cynipid species to South America in recent years. Both species were found in the disturbed areas surrounding the Reserva Nacional Los Queules, but not inside the Reserva, like in other well-known cases, suggesting that Maulino forest would still be resistant enough to biological invasions.
