Optimismo versus autoestima: Implicancia para la psicología clínica y psicoterapia

Vera-Villaroel P.; Cordova-Rubio, N; Celis Atenas, K

Abstract

The paper assesses the differences between optimistic and not optimistic subjects, at negative (Depression, Anxiety) and positive (Satisfaction with Life, Happiness and Self-Esteem) variables. The research was conducted in a group of 309 university students between 18 and 25 years. The ANOVA test (Scheffé test) showed significant differences for the negative variables. For the positive variables were found significant differences in life satisfaction and happiness. Optimism is highlighted in relation to the others variables. In contrast, the variable self-esteem does not appear as a relevant variable. It concludes with the importance of the use of optimism and other positive variables, studied in recent years, as a tool in psychotherapy and clinical interventions. © 2009 Fundación AIGLÉ.
