Abstract

It is of great relevance to consider the different perspectives of approaching and treating eating disorders. The attachment theory offers a framework for the understanding of the underlying dynamics of the manifestation of symptoms and for the design of specific interventions. The current article is centred in the search of clinical implications that could contribute to the treatment of the eating disorders looking for better adherence and outcomes. The results point toward the insecure attachment pattern as the most common in patients with eating disorders. The style of attachment has implications in the relation between patient and therapist. Recognising the patterns of attachment and the relational dynamics between the patient and the therapist could help interventions to be more effective. © 2009 Fundación AIGLÉ.
