Abstract

The new environmental legislation implemented in Chile has forced at the animal farms to incorporate treatment processes of manure. Spite, that it is possible to find technological solutions, they need of a high level of investment, which becomes a problem for the medium and small size companies. It is necessary to develop solutions technologies that are adapted to the reality and complexity of the Chilean animal farms. This work, presents the result of the first stage of a project that focus on develop local information for swine manure treatment and it use in the agricultural sector. Initially we developed a conceptualization of the environmental management of a complex swine and friut farm, located in the Central Valley of Chile, near the city of Chilián. This farm has a surface of 240 hectares and includes different a swine feedlot (12000 Sows), 100 hectares of organic orchards (kiwis, apples and blueberries) and 140 hectares of rotation crop. In the last surface, there are realized applications of the treated manure as fertilizer. This work presents the conceptual model of the farm operation, identifying the components and processes involved in the agricultural managing, and in the production and transport of pollutants, analyzing its spatial and temporary scales. This work will allow to advance in the use of the model CEEOT-SWAP to evaluate the environmental impact of the BMP and to define the monitoring network that will be used for the validation and calibration of the model.
