Abstract

Air quality in the Temuco County, Chile, from 2007 to 2009 was studied. In 2007 and 2009, substantial increases in the number of exceedances of the PM 10 standard were recorded in Temuco County. The year 2009 had the highest number of exceedances of the PM 10, the month of July is the more polluted and the least rainy months of the year and the coldest month. The levels of PM 10 were high and exceeded the daily Chilean standard. The obtained levels of particulate matter were high and it is recommended to establish better actions that diminish levels of particulate matter. These actions, like improving the residential wood combustion problem and limiting vehicular traffic must consider the temporal variations on levels of PM 10. This is an abstract of a paper presented at the 104th AWMA Annual Conference and Exhibition 2011 (Orlando, FL 6/21-24/2011).
