Abstract

This article shows how bicycles have been incorporated in everyday´s landscape in Santiago city; particularly, in the commercial area of the municipality of Providencia, in the east side of the city. By means of a systematic observation on Providencia’s space, the number of bicycles parked in both formal and informal parking spaces on streets and lanes in an area of more than 20 blocks was recorded. These results were then compared to the commercial uses of Providencia in regards to the density of bicycles per commercial square meter and the distances of these in relation to the formally established commerce
