Organizational Styles and Key Actions to Facilitate Knowledge Management in a Construction Project

Abstract

Construction companies are knowledge-intensive organizations are highly dependent on the skills of their project teams. The site organizational styles are varied and have a distinctive culture. If this culture promotes socialization and systematization of field experiences, then it is possible to support knowledge management in the company. The use of a maturity and knowledge management model permit to identify key actions that facilitate socialization and systematization of knowledge, according to the type of organization adopted. This paper presents the model, its foundations, the connection with social network analysis, and the key actions that enable this facilitation. It is noted that for organizations with functional structures, actions must arise from the central office, working on updating databases, internal protocols, and locate the key knowledge. For organizations with project structures, actions should be undertaken by the project manager, to meet a milestone planned, promoting post-milestone assessment. Its incorporation into the project planning facilitate socialization and systematization of key information, supporting knowledge management.
