The Pacific Alliance Summitry: A Cooperation Mechanism for Regional Governance

Abstract

In this chapter we will concentrate on analyzing the structure and political process of the Pacific Alliance summits. In the first part of the analysis will provide description and contextualization of the PA's recent origins, expectations, goals, organization and evolution as a bloc. Then we will move toward an examination of the Summitry functions of the PA, providing insights that will depict it as an innovative mechanism based on its institutional design and efficient and flexible policy-making practices. To conclude, we will present tentative answers regarding this particular form of integration and the potential impact it poses on regional governance.
