Abstract

We present the design and development of a system for monitoring the quality of school conviviality in Chile. Its purpose is to strengthen the school´s capabilities to manage school conviviality. We present this system in the context of a punitive educational policy environment, which seeks school improvement through control and punishment. The system includes questionnaires administered to students, teachers, and parents; support systems for interpreting results through easy-to-read reports at the school and commune level; and supports through consultancies. The system include continues feedback cycles. We present initial findings that show adequate psychometric properties of the student questionnaire. We discuss the possibilities of using this type of strategy for monitoring school conviviality in the context of an increasingly punitive educational policy, as in the case of Chile.
