BETWEEN AGGRESSION AND VIOLENCE: CONSTITUTIVE ASPECTS OF HUMAN BEHAVIOR OR OF THE CONSTITUTION OF HOMO HOMINI LUPUS CULTURAL?

Ther, Francisco

Abstract

Generally speaking, theories from the genesis ofaggressive impulse can be clustered in two large orientations. While one ofthese orientations says that the aggressive instinct ofman is originated in its animal origin, the other reacts saying that aggressive and intra specific aggression refer to very specific human impulses. However, these two orientations do notpresentprecise borders between them. In the following lines a hypothesis is developed, proposing that intra specific violence between primates, during the Plio-Pleistoceno, has not been corroborated in an unquestionable way until now, regardless ofthe existence ofbone prints that show hits on skulls and other large bones. There are differences between what is known as aggression and what we handle as violence, only the second one ofthese behaviours is found between Homo sapiens, aggression would not belong to our specie. Until now, is hard to talk, with property, about a period of extreme aggression and violence inpreterit times, it is only possible to investigate facts and violent behaviours in times ofhigher cultural and technological development.
