Abstract

This theoretical essay aims to address the potential of virtual blogs(weblogs) as a space of resistance of individuals to hegemonic discourses of unidirectional mass media (newspapers, radio and television). By reference on facts of wide media interest as the September 11 attacks (11S), and the U.S. war against Iraq, the authors reflect on how this new communicative ability contributes to the emergence of practices of alternative information that allow confronting symbolic violence generated by mass media.
