Abstract

The article analyses, in a theoretical perspective, the term limit and the incentives for the incumbent generated by the Chilean electoral system. Besides, it is studied the perception of the re-election limits by means of a telephone survey applied to the inhabitants of Santiago de Chile. The survey shows a general agreement for limiting the re-election through a specific law. However, the survey shows a group of contradictory opinions that hinders their comprehension and the possibility of legislating on the matter.
