Abstract

Teaching in Medicine has undergone great changes in the last 15 years, posing new demands and challenges to the professors. It is important to learn the motivations of the people who work as academics in order to be able to optimize this process. The result of a survey made among the academics of the Department of Otolaryngology of the Universidad de Chile, in order to obtain demographic and motivational data is presented. 17 out of a total of 24 professionals answered the survey. Among the results one must highlight the predominance of professionals with less that 5 years of experience as specialist. Notwithstanding the fact that the majority considers that the salaries are low, the existence of other reasons for maintaining their actual work is evidenced.
