Abstract

The focus of this article is placed on understanding what information visualization is and how this could result in an effective communication channel when releasing statistical data. To do so, various associated concepts such as data, information, visualization and information design are considered. Then, information visualization is analyzed under three premises: visual perception, beauty and reliability. These characteristics make of information visualization an efficient tool when accessing data collection. Finally, the case of Mira Santiago is presented as a proposal for data release using information visualization as a tool to access more users.
