Abstract

This article investigates both the biographical and the systematic dimensions of the relationship between Hans Urs von Balthasar and Bernhard Welte. In the first case, the lack of a real encounter between them is astonishing- despite the fact that Basel and Freiburg -that is, the cities where they lived for a long time- are close to each other. On the other hand, the systematic dimension makes clear that Balthasar and Welte are trying to answer a question concerning the human response to the Revelation of God in Christ. Welte emphasizes the self-realization of faith, and Balthasar argues that the Revelation of God's love provides all the means necessary for human beings to understand this glorious love properly. © 2009 Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile.
