Abstract

This article discusses the concept of family within the framework of social systems theory. Based on critical analyses of some authors who follow this theoretical tradition, it is proposed a concept of modern family as a functionally differentiated system. After this theoretical decision, the communication of intimacy is defined as a characteristic of family and the distinction of relatives as a base code of the system.
