Abstract

This paper focuses on some aspects of continuity and change within the demographic agenda and its related state policies during Frei's and Allende's governments. The author seeks to examine the ways in which the problems related to Chile's population structure were assessed in those times and some of the changes proposed by the respective governments. Thus, it is demonstrated how both governments established a relationship between transformations in the demographic structure and reforms that aimed at improved health and life conditions of the population. Both governments were part of a comprehensive process of transformations that sought to reduce the misery in which an important part of the Chilean population was living.
