Abstract

The study of migrant women in population movements and the verification of their increase in recent decades have prompted the search for theoretical frameworks to explain, firstly, the absence of migrant women in investigations, and following that, the particularities of the phenomenon. Therefore, the inclusion of gender in the study of migration and the establishment and consolidation later of a rather meticulous field of study in Latin American production, has entailed a number of criticisms, tensions and contributions that are meant to be recorded briefly in this paper. It is currently accepted that the gender perspective in migratory studies has allowed correcting the generalizations that had been made about migrant subjects, and recognizing gender as a basic principle underlying human mobility.
