Quality of life and experiences on working insertion in Valparaiso: perceptions of the proper person with intellectual disability and its mesosystem

Abstract

The Law 20.422 recently put into force in Chile, guarantees the equality of opportunities for disabled people, covering among others the working realm. It is expected that this law affects positively the Quality of Life (Schalock and Verdugo, 2002) of whom start to work under it. The present qualitative study describes how the working insertion of people with intellectual disability in Valparaiso city, has affected the different dimensions of the construct Quality of Life. The results show that a positive impact is achieved in the independence factors and welfare of the subjects. There is also evidence, as a cooperating factor, the impact of working insertion in the social and participation realms.
