Prototyping analytic and interactive tools to support the design, development and assessment of policy making in education

Abstract
The increasing complexity of the educational systems, the unsatisfied demand for evidence to inform about the effectiveness of the schools are arising problems in the Chilean and worldwide educational systems. If well we are flooding in data, this information is not deep explored and exploited in the design, monitoring and evaluation of public policies in education. The recent advancements in the info-communication technologies ―which decrease significantly the cost and the time of data processing― configure a unique opportunity to develop strategies to face the problems identified. In this project, we will explore and propose new tools to support policy and decision-making processes for the Chilean educational system based on the current needs of users at local, meso and national levels. These tools will inform the design, development and evaluation of public policies primarily focused on three main problems of the Chilean educational system: (a) school failure, (b) territorial development and (c) school choice.
