Explorando Aprendo: Learning Object to Enhance Language Development in Children with Specific Language Impairment

Abstract

The integration of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in education allows generate learning resources, providing educational materials to teach and improve cognitive development. In Chile the language schools are responsible for teaching children between 3 to 6 years, with difficulties in expression and understanding of language. These children have a degree of specific language impairment (SLI). The integration of ICT in learning activities has a great importance to enhance the skills of children. There are mobile applications that perform these activities, but most of them don’t reflect the Chilean culture. This paper describes a learning object called Explorando Aprendo, which contains different educational activities, fostering phonological, semantic and morphosyntactic levels of language. The main result was the Exlorando Aprendo creation with an architecture that integrates recreational activities for language improvement, implemented under an structure that allows integration of new activities. Currently the learning object is available in Google Play with over 100 downloads.
