Development of the field of Health Communications in Chile

Abstract

Main objective: Set the theoretical and practical bases for the development of the field of health communication at Universidad Catolica de Chile (UC) at the highest international standard. Specific objectives: -Take advantage of the opportunity to lead and excel in a relevant and consolidated field which is underdeveloped in Chile. -Reinforce academic and business links with international partners for the long-term development of the field along its three main dimensions: theoretical/academic, public-interest, and business/economic. - Set the bases for the creation of a health communication centre at Universidad Catolica in agreement with prestigious international institutions. - Take advantage of the experience and resources available at Universidad Catolica de Chile’s School of Communication, such as its Doctoral Programme, the Master & Diploma in Communication & Education, and the Fondef project ca13i10210 executed with the School of Medicine, the Institute of Sociology, the universities of Missouri and Kansas, SENAMA, and the e-Health division of Telefonica S.A..
