Abstract

In this article we describe the conceptions on cultural identity that are expressed by young evangelical Aymara women of the region of Tarapacá in Chile, facing the gap in scientific knowledge on the identity processes in young Aymara pentecostal population, and including systematically gender distinctions. The material is part of a major study and is based in 25 in-depth interviews to aymaras, men and women of rural and urban sectors, between January and September, 2013. Here we consider the interviews corresponding to 8 evangelical university’s students (between 18 and 29 years). Three components will be highlighted: its relation with masculinity, language like an identification resource, and the territory as an identity modality. Finally, it will end analyzing the importance of reflexivity about proper assumptions in investigation like factors that obscure the processes of certain social groups.
