Inequalities in exercise of care from a gender focus
Keywords: care, nursing, gender and health
Abstract
This article was created in order to debate about gender differences in society, which permeate healthcare. First, health care is described throughout history; then, healthcare systems are analyzed extensively. Furthermore, the thematic was subdivided into informal and formal care. Subsequently, an analysis about gender inequalities present in both systems and their implications for women and nursing is done. To break with the prevailing stereotypes, incorporate men to informal care and nursing modifying its paradigmatic vision, are some of the proposals exposed. It is concluded that there is gender inequality in the system of informal and formal care; women are who assume the role of caring due to social stereotypes. This aspect affects Nursing, because part of the prevailing inequalities in their work, derive from a cultural or social vision towards its paradigmatic element, healthcare.
