Abstract

Based on the criteria on which the typical (TA) and picturesque areas (PA) in Chile have been established in recent years, a tool to systematize the process of delimitation of such spaces is proposed. The design and structure suggested have been designed to support the different stages that constitute the registration process of establishing the limits of a TA. Both allow incorporating different visions, evidence the used criteria, make the process traceable in time, and facilitate subsequent monitoring in function of the ability to protect and enhance an area under the factors that invigorate that territory. The operation of this tool is based on the record, location, and characterization of the heritage attributes of a determined area based on the bonds, associations, and spatial distribution patterns they reflect, as well as threats and potentialities that may have impact thereof. Key words: typical and picturesque areas, heritage protection, conservation, spatial limits.
