Abstract

The aim of this study is to determine a physical-sporting profile of college students, as a previous step to develop and implement sporting policies and design effective programs that show an effect in the levels of participation in sports. To reach this, we selected a random sample of students of the Universidad de Playa Ancha (n=279; 60% ladies, 40% gentlemen), who answered a questionnaire of sporting habits. The statistical treatment was descriptive and inferential (Pearson’s chi-squared test). The results show that most students (59,1%) practice some type of physical-sporting activity, being higher the number of men (73%) than women (49,4%). The practice is mostly autonomous (70,9%) (on their own), most regularly fitness training and jogging, which show this is a sporting-recreational activity (91,6%). There was a significant relation between the weekly free time and time to practice in each session (p=0,002).
