Construction of an optical system and integration of a HEMT-based prototype receiver for Band 2+3 of ALMA.

Abstract

Universidad de Chile is participating in a large international team, headed by ESO, to build a prototype of an extended W-Band cryogenic receiver. This instrument, called Band 2+3, is intended to replace the current Band 3 receiver at ALMA (86-116 GHz). It will extend the current frequency coverage down to 67 GHz, simplifying ALMA operations and making substantial difference on some specific science topics as high redshift CO detection. Our team at Universidad de Chile, with the support of ESO- Chile Joint Committee, is focusing on the design and construction of the Band 2+3 orthomode transducer (OMT) and optics system
